Flying From Lax To Saudi Arabia For Umrah- Routes, Miqat And Visa
Most Umrah trips from Los Angeles leave from LAX. Some travelers in Orange County or the Inland Empire start at John Wayne (SNA) or Ontario (ONT) and connect on the way.
Flight Time and Airlines From Los Angeles
Flights from LAX to Jeddah or Madinah usually have one stop. Common routes go through Istanbul on Turkish Airlines, Cairo on EgyptAir, or Saudia’s network.
The total trip often takes 20 to 24 hours, depending on the layover. Saudi Arabia is 10 or 11 hours ahead of Los Angeles, depending on daylight saving time.
Should You Land in Jeddah or Madinah First?
If you land in Jeddah, you perform Umrah first and then visit Madinah. This is a good choice if Umrah is your main focus.
If you land in Madinah, you rest for a few days and get used to the time change first. After that, you travel to Makkah by road or the Haramain high-speed train. Many first-time pilgrims and older travelers from LA prefer this route.
When to Enter Ihram From Los Angeles
If you fly straight to Jeddah, your plane crosses the Miqat before it lands. Enter Ihram before boarding your last flight or when the crew announces the Miqat. Wear it from your layover airport, because there is no time to change on board.
If you go to Madinah first, your Miqat is Dhul Hulayfah (Abyar Ali). It is just outside Madinah, and we stop there on the way to Makkah.
Umrah Visa and Documents for US Travelers
US citizens can usually perform Umrah on the Saudi tourist eVisa. It is valid for one year with multiple entries. Green Card holders with another passport are often eligible too.
You will need:
- a passport valid for at least 6 months
- a meningococcal ACWY vaccine certificate
- a booking in the Nusuk app for your Rawdah visit in Madinah
Our Umrah visa service handles the application and checks your documents before submission.
Best Time For Umrah Tours From Los Angeles And Planning Your Trip
The best time for Umrah depends on the weather in Makkah, not in Los Angeles. Summer in Makkah is very hot, with daytime temperatures often above 105°F.
From December to February, highs usually fall to the high 70s and 80s°F, which makes walking to the Haram much easier.
Choosing Your Travel Dates
Many LA families plan around school breaks. Thanksgiving week, the winter break in late December and spring break in March are popular, so hotels near the Haram fill up early.
If you can travel in October, November or January, prices are often lower and crowds are lighter.
Ramadan Umrah From Los Angeles
Ramadan 2027 is expected to start in early to mid-February, depending on the moon sighting. It is the busiest and most expensive time of year in Makkah.
Book three to four months ahead if you want a hotel close to the Haram. You can compare dates and hotels on our Ramadan Umrah packages.
